LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LAX)
DEVIATION FROM OVER-OCEAN OPERATIONS
Three Nights Every Two Weeks
12 AM – 6:30 AM
Deviation from Over-Ocean Operations is expected to occur every two weeks for three nights (12 AM – 6:30 AM) due to the closure of south outboard runway 25L/7R for routine maintenance.
Specific dates of the deviation are as follows:
- September 1 - 2, 2018 (Saturday & Sunday)
- September 4 - 6, 2018 (Tuesday – Thursday)
- September 17 – 19, 2018 (Monday – Wednesday)
- October 1 – 3, 2018 (Monday – Wednesday)
- October 15 – 17, 2018 (Monday – Wednesday)
- October 29 – 31, 2018 (Monday – Wednesday)
Whenever possible, the FAA transitions LAX air traffic flow to Over-Ocean Operations from 12 AM to 6:30 AM, wherein aircraft arrive and depart over the ocean to minimize noise disturbance to the communities directly east of the airport. During this traffic flow, the south runway complex is utilized primarily for departures while the north runway complex is utilized primarily for arrivals.
Aircraft Design Group VI aircraft (A380 and B747-800) can only depart on two runways, 25L/7R and 24L/6R, at LAX due to limited spacing on the airfield. The closure of Runway 25L/7R on the south complex requires these aircraft to depart on Runway 24L/6R on the north complex, which would conflict with aircraft arrivals on the same runway complex during Over-Ocean Operations. Therefore, deviation from this traffic flow may be required whenever Runway 25L/7R is closed.
Residents may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and noise as a result of this periodic deviation. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this circumstance. |
