October 2025

Dear Airport Community,

Welcome to the fall edition of our newsletter! As the season changes and excitement builds for Halloween and the holidays, we’re thrilled to share the latest updates and opportunities at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).

This month, we are excited for Aviation Career Days at LAX and Van Nuys Airport—an exclusive chance for high school students to connect with aviation professionals and explore behind-the-scenes airport operations. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our annual Santa Fly-in event on December 20th, where families can celebrate the season with us on our airfields.

Our team is dedicated to keeping you informed and engaged. We value your feedback and encourage you to reach out with questions, ideas, or stories at communityrelations@lawa.org.

Battery Electric Buses Have Arrived
Seven Battery Electric Buses Arrived as Part of LAWA's Committment to Sustainability.

LAWA has begun receiving new battery electric buses that will operate 24/7 to transport airport employees between the employee remote parking lot and the terminals. After a competitive selection process, BYD/Rice Coach & Bus was chosen to supply 13 buses, with full delivery expected by January 2026.

Additionally, ABM, LAWA’s parking and remote employee bus operator, has ordered 11 battery electric buses, all scheduled to arrive by next month. This purchase was made possible through a $2.6 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Each bus can travel up to 240 miles on a single charge and delivers a maximum power output of 360 kilowatts. They are designed to carry up to 39 passengers, including 26 seated, 13 standing, and 1 driver.

The new buses entered service at LAX on October 1, and the entire fleet will replace the current compressed natural gas (CNG) employee parking buses by March 2026.

LAWA to Welcome Over 2,000 Students for Aviation Career Days

This month, LAWA will host more than 2,000 high school students to explore the exciting world of aviation at Aviation Career Day (ACD) — taking place at Van Nuys Airport on October 23 and LAX on October 30.

For nearly two decades, ACD has opened hangar doors to future pilots, engineers, mechanics, and more, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at aviation careers. This year, more than 40 aviation businesses will participate, showcasing aircraft and sharing insights into the many paths that lead to a career in flight.

Whether students interested in designing the next jet, managing airport operations, or traveling the world as a flight attendant, Aviation Career Day offers something for every passion.

The program is held in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District and other LAX-area school districts to introduce students to aviation careers — opportunities many may not be aware of without direct exposure.
