Westchester’s annual Fourth of July Parade brought thousands of neighbors together for a day of celebration, community pride and patriotic spirit. Los Angeles World Airports made a memorable appearance this year, with Airport Affairs staff, Airport Police, the LAX PUPs and the APD Cadets all turning out in force.
Cadets marched proudly along the parade route, drawing cheers from families lining the sidewalks. Their crisp formation and upbeat energy reflected the dedication and teamwork they bring to their training at Los Angeles World Airports.
Members of the Community Relations team added a playful and eye‑catching element to the celebration, showcasing a replica of the SkyLink — a nod to LAWA’s modernization efforts and the future of transportation at LAX.
The event, organized by the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, brought together residents, businesses and civic partners to commemorate 250 years of American independence. LAWA’s strong presence underscored its ongoing commitment to supporting local traditions and strengthening ties with the communities surrounding its airports.

On Sunday, July 5, members of LAWA’s Community Relations team participated in the Third Annual Downtown Culver City Independence Celebration at the Culver City Town Plaza. The family‑friendly event featured live music, student performances and a flag salute honoring the nation’s independence. The evening concluded with a vibrant aerial drone light show that illuminated the sky with patriotic images, including the American flag and Rosie the Riveter.

The LAWA Summer Internship Program gives undergraduate and graduate students paid, hands‑on experience at one of the world’s busiest airport systems. Interns work alongside industry professionals and gain exposure to a wide range of functional areas, including airport operations, planning, finance, communications and emerging technology. Throughout the summer, interns participate in site tours, professional development workshops and team projects that highlight how Los Angeles World Airports serves millions of travelers each year. The program is designed to help students build practical skills, explore career pathways and learn how major airport systems operate behind the scenes.

On Monday, July 13, LAWA’s Finance and Accounting Division hosted analysts from several bond rating agencies for a behind-the-scenes look at key airport projects and operations. LAWA periodically issues airport revenue bonds to fund its capital program and requests credit ratings for the bonds. For its anticipated Series 2026 Bonds, LAWA executive staff met with credit analysts to review relevant financial and traffic statistics, discuss future projections, and provide updates on major capital projects. Accompanied by LAWA Chief Financial Officer Antoinette Chandler, the group toured several key facilities, including the recently completed LAX Rental Car Center, the Midfield Satellite Concourse South (Bradley West Gates), and the LAX airfield.
The tour was led by members of LAWA’s Community Relations and Airport Operational Readiness teams, who provided insights into airport development, project implementation, and daily operations. The analysts also received an overview of the ATMP Roadway Improvements Project in the new project showroom at the Skyview South building, highlighting the ongoing investments that are enhancing the airport experience and supporting LAX’s future growth.

Did you know?
LAX is more than just a major airport — it's also home to the rare El Segundo blue butterfly! Once on the brink of extinction, this species became the first insect ever placed on the Federal Endangered Species List. In response, LAX partnered with wildlife and environmental experts to launch the LAX Dunes Restoration Project in 1986. Today, the restored dunes span more than 300 acres and provide a thriving habitat for the butterfly. By 2012, the population was estimated at 90,000 butterflies — an incredible recovery, with numbers increasing 65 to 130 times since restoration efforts began.

LAX Residential Sound Insulation Program
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) relaunched the LAX Residential Sound Insulation (RSI) Program for eligible homeowners located within FAA-approved noise contours near LAX.
The program provides sound-insulation improvements, including upgraded windows, exterior doors, and ventilation systems, at no cost to homeowners in the City of El Segundo and select neighborhoods within Los Angeles City Council Districts 11 and 8. Improvements vary depending on each home’s construction type and any applicable historic designation requirements.
Although the program is winding down, there is still time to apply. Applications will be accepted through Spring 2027.
Homeowners are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible. An updated noise exposure map is expected to be released at the end of summer 2026. Submitting an application now helps ensure your eligibility before the contour update takes effect.
